ADR: The Potential Return

So the current #hotrumour is that WWE is interested in re-signing Alberto Del Rio. If you've lost track he's the guy who was released from his contract in August of last year (feels like a lot longer ago) for assaulting a member of the production crew backstage after they'd allegedly made racially derogatory comments about him. A response which, honestly, seems pretty just.

Yeah, he looks fetch but ADR didn't fit in too well in LU.
Since being released Del Rio has changed his name to Alberto El Patron, capitalising on WWE's baffling decision not to trademark the 'El Patron' nickname he used during his time in the company. His most prominent appearances have come in Lucha Underground, ROH and AAA. Truth be told he actually seemed a little out of place in LU, both in terms of character and wrestling style. In ROH he wrestled a handful of very good matches in early 2015. Then he stopped being booked for whatever reason (it's likely that his work with the other promotions mentioned here were behind that), a pity as 'The Essence of Excellence' felt like a good fit in the Land of Honor. His AAA work has seemed to go down better though. The promotion is clearly happy to have him as they put their top title, the mega championship, on him in December 2014 and he's still got it now.

You may be wandering why WWE would want to rehire someone they released for attacking a co-worker less than eighteen months ago. The answer here is simple: they have also lost Rey Mysterio and haven't managed to build up a new star to market to their Latin American fans. They need the star power.

Which is odd because they have the perfect guy on the roster. Kalisto is young, talented, wrestles the style, is the nationality required, and wears a mask. He's a significantly better worker now than a guy like Rey Mysterio is. He may not be as breathtaking or revolutionary as Mysterio in his prime but nobody will ever be that good (or at least that significant) again. The aerial antics of 90s Mysterio have been replicated, standardised and exaggerated upon too much for that. But Kalisto would still be a good choice for WWE to push if they want to have marketable Hispanic star.

Push this man.
That nothing much has been done with Kalisto is odd. He received a call-up to the main roster the night after WrestleMania 31 and... that's it really. He and Sin Cara, as the Lucha Dragons, have been booked as just another team. They've only wrestled on two pay-per-views, Elimination Chamber and SummerSlam (and Chamber technically wasn't even a PPV). They've not been protected or presented as anything special, nor has the team been booked to make it clear that Kalisto is a singles star in waiting. Had they been given more to do Kalisto would probably be in a good place to wrestle in prominent singles matches on the company's upcoming Mexico tour and act as a draw for the Fed.

It may be WWE's own fault they haven't replaced ADR and Mysterio but that is ultimately irrelevant. All that matters is that they haven't been replaced. Bringing back Del Rio is a good enough answer in the short term. He's an established name and could fill the top Latin star role as well as giving the top of the card a welcome fresh name to play with. If he were willing to go back, and chances are he would be for the right money (and one thing WWE isn't short of is money) and some form of resolution regarding his initial release, he could help WWE. But if he does they should also help themselves and build up Kalisto anyway. Because he's the guy with the long in-ring future who could be selling merch in ten years.

The VaudeHipsters

I like The Vaudevillains. They're talented guys who play well off one another and work well as a pairing. But their current gimmick is markedly different to the ones they had when they made their debuts and that's worth reflecting on. And it's one that may ultimately keep them as NXT guys, as opposed to WWE main roster guys.

The excellent 'Drama King' phase.
Aiden English first became a featured NXT performer in the latter half of 2013. He was a singer. Specifically a music hall singer (although he didn't actually sing in music halls what with being a wrestler ad all), emphatically not the sort of pseudo rock star wrestling has had an abundance of over the years (Chris Jericho, I'm looking your way, pal). And he actually could and did sing. He also had an entrance of above average flamboyance: he'd sing his way to the ring and be thrown roses after winning.

Aside from a rambling, hard to engage with rivalry against Big Cass there wasn't a great deal going on for English at this point. He clearly wasn't going to progress as a singles act. He lacked the physique, gripping promo skills or indy rep it takes to stand out in NXT as a lone star. Which is why someone made the smart decision to pair him up with someone as a tag guy.

That someone was, obviously, Simon Gotch. After a period of inactivity on the televised show English returned to Full Sail with Gotch and announced that they were The Vaudevillains, a clever name that acknowledged the music hall influences of 'The Drama King's' singles run and the Edwardian tropes of Gotch, who was sporting a waxed-up moustache and doing a circus strongman mixed with silent movie star routine. NXT has since become a show that has a healthy number of characters on it but at the time this level of detail for guys not at the top of the show stood out. It was engaging and helped them stand out. Which is the point, of course.

The pair were initially presented as bad guys. This worked for a while, mostly due to the strength of English's previous solo run. In terms of heelishness Gotch did very little for the tandem. His mute performance gave him an air of innocence and charm, not exactly the most intimidating, villainous traits a wrestler can have. The Full Sail crowd took to him even while they were still booing English.

The hipster lads.
Gradually they warmed to English too. Their various backstage skits aping the style of silent movies during their feud with the Lucha Dragons played a role in that opinion shift. Their music was a big part of it too. Catchy and carefree it encouraged people to clap along and engage with the entrance. Basically the two were never going to stay heels because pretty much everything they were given, from the above to feuding with the technically proficient and flashy but devoid of personality Lucha boys, was something that drew viewers in in a positive manner.

After their unsuccessful challenges against Sin Cara and Kalisto the 'villains were given a brief hiatus from NXT. They returned in June, fully embracing the babyface role and launching into a slow-building, eventually really very good series of matches with tag champs (Wesley) Blake and (Buddy) Murphy. There's a chance it could flare up again but that seems unlikely. The programme peaked at Takeover: Brooklyn on August 22 where English and Gotch dethroned BAMF for the NXT tag straps.

It was at that Takeover show that they were defined as hipsters for the first time. Which had been glaringly obvious for a while it just needed someone to verbalise it. They've got the joviality and facial hair generally associated with that subculture. It's not a bad move but it is a shame. A hipster tag team makes a great deal of sense but is it more than a music hall singer and a circus strongman teaming up to enjoy sepia entrances and a spot of wrestling? I don't think so.

NXTweet 01.04.15

Sami Zayn returns! Team Jordillinger implodes! Emma acts heelish again! And Hideo Itami and Tyler Breeze continue their feud in a two-out-of-three falls match! All this... and more!

Intro

Tweet 1: I'm watching NXT... now.
Tweet 2: Coming up: 53.40 of goodness. Minus ads.
Tweet 3: Dedicating this episode to the memory of CJ Parker's developmental contract.

Sami Zayn returns

Tweet 4: I'm just noticing that Sami Zayn has disproportionately large hands.
Tweet 5: Lad in the audience sporting a flat cap there. It's catching on, Sami! #nevergiveup
Tweet 6: Basically Sami Zayn returned after about a month and a half off and said he's going to have a rematch. Lovely stuff.

Rhyno v Unnamed Bloke

Tweet 7: 'The Ladbeast' Rhyno.

Wrestling in a T-shirt. What have you become, Rhyno?

Tweet 8: Disappoints this year's 'Mania didn't feature a story about how Rhyno Gored his wife in a hotel foyer.
Tweet 9: "It doesn't matter!" - 'The Brahma Rhyno'

Dana Brooke video

Tweet 10: We're all agreed Dana Brooke is being brought in to replace Natalya as the resident strong style blonde who uses Bret Hart's colour scheme, yeah?

Footage of Kevin Owens after his match with Finn Bálor last week

Tweet 11: Wandering what Owens did after he retained the title last week? He say backstage and had a laugh. Good for him. Good for Kevin.

Emma v Bayley

Tweet 12: Emma getting her babyface bubble intro then not doing the skin the cat entrance. Lol, mate.
Tweet 13: The commentary team are acknowledging catcalls from the audience! What witchcraft is this?!
Tweet 14: Vince will explode when he hears that happened.

Roll-up for the win, bro.

Tweet 15: Disappointed that the audience aren't more into this match. It's good and Emma and Bayley are both over.
Tweet 16: Maybe they don't know to treat Emma as a heel after her slap work the other week.
Tweet 17: Emma's going to carry on losing. Eventually she'll be pushed over the edge and unveil a Great Muta-esque heel persona.

Devin Taylor interviews Becky Lynch

Tweet 18: Becky Lynch. Does anybody care about Becky Lynch? No. Not even Becky Lynch cares about Becky Lynch.
Tweet 19: "Why hasn't Becky Lynch had her shot?" - Becky Lynch
Tweet 20: The reason I dislike Lynch is that she comes out with generic heel promos like that. Impossible to believe she believes it.
Tweet 21: Also the rocker chick gimmick is deeply clichéd. And she doesn't seem to believe in that either.

Lucha Dragons v Blake and Murphy

Tweet 22: Still loving Blake and Murphy's 90's kids' TV theme music.
Tweet 23: If there had ever been a rave seen on Power Rangers this is the music they'd have used.
Tweet 24: I like the way Kalisto's really energetic and happy and Sin Cara half-heartedly goes through his pose routine.
Tweet 25: They should change his ring name to Rey Kalisto. Just to troll Mysterio.
Tweet 26: "I got him!" Wesley 'Jeff Jarrett' Blake

LUCHA! LUCHA! LUCHA! LUCHA!

Tweet 27: Blake and Murphy should be put in dungarees and called up to the main roster as Bray Wyatt's new henchmen.
Tweet 28: On the subject of Wyatt's henchmen, Rowan needs to be repackaged as an unkempt psychology lecturer. Signature foreign object: Rubik's cube.
Tweet 29: Blake and Murphy winning via shenanigans, a running suplex and a frog splash. That was the best bit of the match and that's upsetting.

Devin Taylor interviews Sami Zayn, Rhyno appears and grunts

Tweet 30: That Rhyno and Zayn confrontation was erotic.

The Mega Powers Explode: Jason Jordan v Tye Dillinger

Tweet 31: RIP Team Jordillinger. Can't believe this match is happening. Heartbreaking end of an era.
Tweet 32: Jordan's busting out a singlet for his singles run. Hoping he adopts Jerry Lawler's tear down a strap routine.

Saddening scenes as Jordan and Dillinger face off.

Tweet 33: Within seconds BOTH straps are down. Jason Jordan is out of control!
Tweet 34: Jordan wins. Erm... good?

Tyler Breeze v Hideo Itami

Tweet 35: Fifteen minutes left to fit in a video package, entrances and a two-out-of-three falls match? Good luck with that.
Tweet 36: Maybe someone will go over with two straight falls. Probs not though. That's not a very WWE approach.
Tweet 37: And I think it's worth reminding ourselves sometimes that as good as NXT is it's still ultimately WWE.
Tweet 38: Look! Look, everyone! It's Tyler! #swoon
Tweet 39: I popped for the selfie stick. #notlikethat
Tweet 40: Disappointed Hideo's not carried over KENTA's love of pork pie hats.
Tweet 41: KICKS.

The power of kick!

Tweet 42: Itami gets the first fall via kicking.
Tweet 43: I'll tell you what. This buff referee needs to slim down a bit. He's upstaging the rasslers.
Tweet 44: Logically, the first fall of two-out-of-three fall matches should be roughly the length of a regular match and it rarely is.
Tweet 45: "Playing possum they call it!" - Corey Graves on playing possum
Tweet 46: This match is good though, innit.
Tweet 47: I like Hideo's hair and I don't care who knows it.
Tweet 48: Breeze winning is a pleasant surprise. That's part of what makes NXT so enjoyable though. The main guys are kept equal.
Tweet 49: Still not wild about the Beauty Shot as a finish though. He needs a DDT variant called the Botox Injection. I've said this before...
Tweet 50: Good episode, everyone. Good hustle.

NXTweet 11.03.15

The not-at-all-anticipated return to the ring of Alex riley. That and that alone is what this episode will be remembered for.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass v Lucha Dragons

Tweet 1: I am watching NXT.
Tweet 2: Marking for Enzo's leopard print jodhpurs.
Tweet 3: So is Cass a character from The Fast Show now?
Tweet 4: I miss the days of Sin Cara botching his entrance every week. Might start a Bring Back Mistico campaign.
Tweet 5: Sin Cara kicking out of a double team at one. What a dick. Mistico wouldn't have done that.
Tweet 6: Genuinely want to see Cass v Kalisto here. Don't think it's going to happen.
Tweet 7: "The headbutt!" - Rich Brennan on an elbow

Just a pair of #lads

Tweet 8: Cass and Enzo v Blake and Murphy will not be a masterpiece. Should be a laugh though.
Tweet 9: And it'll probably give us that Carmella turn we're all waiting for.
Tweet 10: Looking forward to this Schwarzenegger sponsored episode of NXT. Two matches and fan tryout filler. I'm down.

Alex Riley hype video

Tweet 11: This video putting over Alex Riley. My word.
Tweet 12: His awful music. His finisher being called the A-Bomb. His declaration that he was a future WWE champion. So many bad memories.
Tweet 13: Then this pic...

Carmella v Alex Bliss

Tweet 14: I like the implication that Carmella danced all the way through the break.
Tweet 15: Also enjoyed the ref being uncomfortable at her gyrating near him.
Tweet 16: Carmella mixing leopard print with the black and white stripes of a zebra. Sort your life out.
Tweet 17: The crowd are pretty quiet here. Makes me suspect they're more into former indy standouts than I originally thought.

Bulked up fairy cheerleader.

Tweet 18: That or it's the end of a taping and they're knackered.
Tweet 19: Or it's just hitting them that there's an Alex Riley match on the way.
Tweet 20: "She calls that the Sparkle Splash!" - Rich Brennan

Alex Riley shouts about cages backstage

Tweet 21: Earlier today... Riley sat in front of some lockers wearing a T-shirt with "hard knocks" written on it and a back-to-front baseball cap.
Tweet 22: I hope dressing like a Saved By The Bell character is his new thing.
Tweet 23: "What if you were locked in a cage for two years?" - Alex Riley
Tweet 24: "It's time to rage" - Alex Riley
Tweet 25: That was one of the funniest interviews I've seen in ages. It wasn't meant to be, obvs.

CJ Parker v Alex Riley

Tweet 26: Depressed that CJ's going under to a man who's greatest achievement is standing at ringside while Miz main evented WrestleMania.
Tweet 27: Alex Riley there, looking like he's just stepped out of WCW's mid-card circa 1995.
Tweet 28: "You gotta remember Alex Riley has been at WrestleMania!" - A-Tensai, forgetting to mention Riley didn't wrestle there

Ry-Daddy.

Tweet 29: Riley won with a Blockbuster. Too apt for words that he's using Buff Bagwell moves.
Tweet 30: Best thing about that segment was Owens' generic subpar promo.
Tweet 31: I spoke too soon. The best thing was the closing shot being Alex Riley in tears.

Hideo Itami v Tyler Breeze

Tweet 32: Look! Look everyone! It's Tyler Breeze and his selfie stick! #swoon
Tweet 33: "Knees into the mid-section" - Rich Brennan on knees to the face
Tweet 34: Itami pressing the right shoulder button at just the right time for a textbook No Mercy counter to that light B press kick.
Tweet 35: Every week Rich Brennan manages to sound more like Vince McMahon. That's quite the feat.

KAPOW!

Tweet 36: I love me some Vince but his is not commentary to be emulated.
Tweet 37: Prospect of a G2S has woken this crowd up. Commentary team acknowledge it by saying the crowd wants to see the "best" from Itami.
Tweet 38: Pleased Breeze went over. It was his turn after Takeover: Rival. Itami can win the feud at the next one.
Tweet 39: Final shot: Tyler Breeze looking like a svelte He-Man.

NXTweet 08.01.15

Hideo Itami gets a singles match and The Vaudevillains have their tag title rematch. Oh, and NXT champ Sami Zayn returns to work. Good episode. Compelling and rich.

Sami Zayn promo, featuring Adrian Neville and William Regal

Tweet 1: And now to tweet about NXT.
Tweet 2: Sami Zayn has finally bothered to show back up to work. Why did nobody lay into him for taking a month off like Lesnar?
Tweet 3: Just kidding, obvs. Dude was a-selling.
Tweet 4: Flat cap alert.
Tweet 5: Sami's wandered into the crowd to show off his belt. Imagine if someone nabbed it.
Tweet 6: I like Zayn but his T-shirt could be better.
Tweet 7: Sami Zayn and the Zayniacs. Oh Sami. I just said I like you, mate.
Tweet 8: Guy in an nWo T-shirt in the front row. There's always one.
Tweet 9: The point of this is that Zayn got the title because he believed in himself and the fans supported him and that he's ready to fight Owens.
Tweet 10: Neville coming out with his weird music and his Orc ears and his guyliner.

BFFs.

Tweet 11: "I didn't mean to interrupt you" - Adrian Neville after deliberately interrupting
Tweet 12: They'll end up agreeing to have a flat cap on a pole match, just you wait.
Tweet 13: #Regalpop
Tweet 14: Regal announced a rematch for next week. Fair enough.

Vaudevillains backstage interview

Tweet 15: #Vaudevillainspop
Tweet 16: #Gotchvoicepop
Tweet 17: Good promo. English explained what they wanted (the tag titles) and Gotch did some squats. It had it all.

Hideo Itami v Curtis Axel

Tweet 18: Prince Tensai has just claimed that Hideo is popular in Japan as Flair was in his prime. Such a weird analogy.
Tweet 19: Flair was hated in his heyday.
Tweet 20: Curtis Axel and his beard are better off in NXT than on RAW. I hope they stick with him and give him things to do on this show.
Tweet 21: Graves and Albert arguing about hats there.
Tweet 22: Yeah, I mean, you've been going for three minutes so it's probably time for a rest hold.

The dreaded palm to the temple. It's a killer.

Tweet 23: Groin to the face cover from Axel there.
Tweet 24: I like both these guys but this match is doing nothing for me. It's slow. They should have just started off leathering each other.
Tweet 25: I'm disgusted at the lack of reaction to the attempted Perfectplex.

Byron Saxton interviews Natalya and Tyson Kidd backstage

Tweet 26: Tyson's busy preparing for a match next week? Lolwut?
Tweet 27: He's wearing his gear and everything.
Tweet 28: Tyson wants the title. He's also keen on cats. He likes them to eat food from his mouth.

Alexa Bliss v Sasha Banks

Tweet 29: Hype video for Corbin v Dempsey followed by an Alexa Bliss match. No, not odd at all...
Tweet 30: "I spend a lot of time around these ladies" - Rich Brennan, probably not realising like he sounds like a massive stalker
Tweet 31: Still loving the Banks Statement.

One of the best moves in WWE.

Tweet 32: Becky Lynch is no longer playing a nineteenth century Irish girl but hasn't updated her ring gear. Poor effort.

Tyler Breeze announces his comeback

Tweet 33: Close-up of Tyler Breeze! *swoons*

Chad Gable v Tyler Breeze

Tweet 34: Look! Look, everyone! It's Tyler!! #sogorgeous
Tweet 35: "Let's go Gable" chants? What is this? Why aren't they cheering for 'The Gorgeous One'?
Tweet 36: Nice to see Gable making use of some old Kurt Angle gear.

He learned this at the Olympics.

Tweet 37: "We've got a match to call, Albert" - Corey Graves to Jason Bloom
Tweet 38: Big fan of Graves on commentary for that exact reason.
Tweet 39: Chad Gable may have been to the Olympics but he didn't win gold with a BROKEN FREAKIN' NECK.
Tweet 40: Breeze should totes start using the Unprettier.

Devin Taylor talks to Finn Bálor backstage

Tweet 41: Finn Bálor's looking forward to his match with Tyson Kidd next week. Clever lad doing interviews instead of stretching a week early.
Tweet 42: Hilarious shot of Marcus Louis perving on Breeze from behind a curtain from before the (entirely unnecessary) break.

The Vaudevillains v Lucha Dragons

Tweet 43: One day the Vaudevillains pose will be as celebrated as the Impact Players pose.
Tweet 44: Has anyone ever explained why Sin Cara went from being on RAW to being in a tag team in developmental? I mean in storyline terms.
Tweet 45: Is he mentoring Kalisto? That would be a very WWE thing to do.
Tweet 46: Gotch nearly suffered a wardrobe malfunction taking that dive.

Lucha Device?

Tweet 47: I like both of these teams but the WWE tag formula is grating on me here. How about a match where nobody is isolated for an extended period?
Tweet 48: English singing to the crowd while applying a sleeper. Just like that I'm drawn back in.
Tweet 49: Nice sunset bomb, yo.
Tweet 50: "Look at that teamwork! My god!" - Rich Brennan with a call straight out of the Vince McMahon playbook
Tweet 51: Lucha Dragons win. I knew they would but I'm still disappointed.

NXTweet 04.09.14

There won’t be a tweet-up next week. Instead there’ll be a more traditional review of Takeover 2. And that’s this week’s hastily written intro!

Intro

Tweet 1: Alright, strap in. I'm about to spend an hour tweeting about NXT.
Tweet 2: Didn't enjoy that preview opening. Probably because it's not the NXT norm. And I think the NXT norm is pretty much perfect.

Alexa Bliss v Charlotte

Tweet 3: If Alexa Bliss is wrestling and the four title match guys are wrestling this is going to be one busy show.
Tweet 4: Does Charlotte have the most convoluted ring entrance in WWE? I think yes.
Tweet 5: What is Alexa's gimmick? Cheerleader? Fairy? Cheerleader fairy? The latter's a winner...
Tweet 6: That kneebuster Charlotte did was in no way a botch. IN NO WAY.
Tweet 7: I've knocked her for it, but Charlotte's Ric Flair tribute act is growing on me. The impersonation could be a lot worse. Woooooooooo!
Tweet 8: Dat Bayley's gonna hug you chant.
Tweet 9: I like her but Bayley's character would die a horrible death on RAW without some pretty severe tinkering.

Would 'Naitch' have covered people like this?

Tyler Breeze vignette

Tweet 10: "Do they look like this?" - Tyler Breeze, sitting there in a purple furry coat
Tweet 11: Breeze's work getting that character over in thirty seconds was sensational. Easily one of the best things in NXT.
Tweet 12: The NXT title match at Takeover could realistically be won by any of the four guys in the match. Good job getting everyone over.
Tweet 13: That said I really want it to be Tyler Breeze. A change is needed after Neville's six month reign and he's the strongest character-wise.

Sin Cara and Kalisto talk to Devin Taylor

Tweet 14: Anyway... we now have Sin Cara and Kalisto chatting to Devin Taylor. Cara chatted in Spanish. Kalisto translated. Kind of a dick move.
Tweet 15: Kalisto there, saying he and Cara are a strong tag team. Nah. Not as strong as The Ascension.

Tye Dillinger v Tyler Breeze

Tweet 16: Tye Dillinger's lack of charisma would be best off in a tag team.
Tweet 17: Tyler Breeze. The third Young Buck.
Tweet 18: Tye played several seasons of "semi-professional" ice hockey, did he? Well that... that's certainly something.
Tweet 19: Lot of hip action from Breeze on that choke. #justsaying

Tyson Kidd vignette

Tweet 20: Tyson Kidd giving a heel promo his best shot there. In fairness it could've been a lot worse.

Enzo Amore and Big Cass hang out at a hairdresser’s called HAIR

Tweet 21: I reckon Enzo is based on a young Paul Heyman. But less arrogant.
Tweet 22: "You got that camera rollin'?" - Enzo Amore on an iPhone
Tweet 23: Hair removal cream spilled on a poodle. A clump of hair comes off in Enzo's hand. This is like Russo era WCW.
Tweet 24: That entire thing was designed to get over hair removal cream? I expect that kind of nonsense from TNA, not NXT.

Tyson Kidd v Adam Rose

Tweet 25: Guy in Rose's entourage looks like Shelton Benjamin.
Tweet 26: Tom Phillips just plugged the Takeover pre-show and promised plenty of surprises. How does he know there'll be surprises?
Tweet 27: That match was good but Rose hugn on in the Sharpshooter a bit too long for my liking.
Tweet 28: Had he tapped a bit quicker it would have gotten over Kidd's application of the hold. Would've made sense to establish he's good with it.

Crisp Sharpshooter application from Kidd.

Sami Zayn vignette

Tweet 29: Sami Zayn being a stand up babyface and saying he wants to pin the champ for the belt.

Sami Zayn v Marcus Louis

Tweet 30: Marcus Louis's music is incredibly lol.
Tweet 31: As is Sly Lefort's chest hair.
Tweet 32: NXT fans chanting “Canada” in support of Zayn is why I love that audience.
Tweet 33: I wish Sylvester Lefort was still an ineffectual manager. He was great as an ineffectual manager.
Tweet 34: Zayn wins via Koji Clutch. Marcus Louis tapped out almost immediately and so the hold's a little more over going into Takeover. See?!
Tweet 35: Enzo and Cass show up. Sly and Marcus run off. Enzo freaks out. Cass tries not to laugh. Standard sequence.

Don't be bullies. Be stars.

Adrian Neville vignette

Tweet 36: Adrian Neville looks like an orc.
Tweet 37: He did a promo about being bullied at school for looking like an orc. I think.

CJ Parker v Adrian Neville

Tweet 38: CJ 'The Truth' Parker.
Tweet 39: Want to know about the first time I was made aware of Adrian Neville? Course you do!
Tweet 40: Someone rang in to the old Talksport radio show and berated Alex Shane for not booking Neville (then PAC) for the FWA.
Tweet 41: Pretty sure the caller claimed that Shane had a southern bias. They definitely said PAC was the future of wrestling.
Tweet 42: First time I saw him wrestle? Some Dragon Gate show I watched online I think.
Tweet 43: Anyway... they're wrestling right now. CJ does some good shaky leg selling.

Sin Cara and Kalisto v The Vaudevillains

Tweet 44: Sin Cara's fist pumping is so halfhearted. I kind of respect him for very obviously not caring.
Tweet 45: #Vaudevillainspop
Tweet 46: Code of Honor status: followed.
Tweet 47: "Flipping into the attack there" - Tom Phillips, a man paid to be a commentator
Tweet 48: Decent match. Wrong team won though. People don't care about Sin Cara and Kalisto like they do the Vaudevillains.
Tweet 49: Plus Kalisto and El Local were the challengers on the last NXT spesh. Gotch and English would've given a fresher match.

The shirt always makes me think The Ascension should have a conspiracy theorist gimmick.

Tweet 50: Closing shot is The Ascension standing very still and holding their belts over their heads. Classic stuff.
Tweet 51: Best episode in a few weeks. I enjoyed that a lot. Every match did something for Takeover 2 and they trailed KENTA's debut just enough.

NXTweet 21.08.14

Here we are. For the fifth week in a row it’s some tweets about NXT. I might stop doing it soon. Familiarity breeds contempt and all that.

Opening

Tweet 1: It's NXT tweetin' time.
Tweet 2: That NXT chant from the audience isn't at all forced.

Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore v The Vaudevillains

Tweet 3: Anyone else reckon Road Dogg gave Enzo a heads up on coming up with lengthy spiel?
Tweet 4: Enzo and Big Cass versus The Vaudevillains is about as close as it gets to an NXT dream tag match. This episode's starting strong.
Tweet 5: Enzo's hair.
Tweet 6: Gotch catching Enzo. #powerhouse
Tweet 7: That match was way shorter than I thought it would be. Good for what it was... but it could've been so much more.

Old school heat-garnering.

Tweet 8: Sylvester Lefort shaving Enzo's beard. That's some Memphis heat right there.
Tweet 9:  Enzo's reaction? Clutching at his cheek, looking stunned, and saying "Bro." That's why he's great. Bro.
Tweet 10: I'm cool with The Vaudevillains winning but it would have been nice to see Enzo and Cass face The Ascension.

Triple H in-ring promo announcing Takeover 2

Tweet 11: Ahhhhhh... here's the reason that opener went short. A Triple H promo.
Tweet 12: Maybe he should try milking the crowd a bit more.
Tweet 13: Triple H's eyes are too far apart. I've only just noticed that.
Tweet 14: New GM. As long as it's not Jericho I'll be cool with it.
Tweet 15: Why do a pre-recorded announcement when you can get yourself some ring time, eh?

Tyler Breeze talks to Devin Taylor

Tweet 16: Most gorgeous champion in NXT history.
Tweet 17: Not just a pretty face. Breeze should get that scrawled on his tights.
Tweet 18: "I want GORGEOUS down this side, and I want GORGEOUS down this side!" I miss Mike Awesome.

Tyler Breeze v Tyson Kidd

Tweet 19: I feel it's important to point out that both Kidd and Breeze are Canadian.
Tweet 20: "He's worrying about what his wife's doing..." - Renee Young, as though caring for a spouse is a bad thing
Tweet 21: Count out win for Kidd. That's the first win I can remember him getting in the last month.

Charlotte v Becky Lynch

Tweet 22: It's not really clear whether we're meant to like Charlotte or not.
Tweet 23: Becky Lynch needs to get called up to the main roster and put in a group with Sheamus, Devitt and Hornswoggle. That'd be money.
Tweet 24: It wouldn’t.
Tweet 25: Charlotte trying to nail her dad's mannerisms there. Subpar.

A perfectly satisfactory match this.

Tweet 26: "She's been bred for success" - Byron Saxton on Charlotte
Tweet 27: That was fine. Nothing else to say about it. Charlotte doesn't seem to bother with crowd interaction.

Enzo and Big Cass challenge The Legionnaires to a hair versus hair match

Tweet 28: Enzo's pronunciation of Lefort.
Tweet 29: Hair versus hair, mon frère.
Tweet 30: Renee's a fan of hair versus hair matches. What's to be a fan of?

Mojo Rawley v Steve Cutler, followed by a Mojo Rawley promo

Tweet 31: Mojo Rawley. *rolls eyes*
Tweet 32: I'm pleased to see most people have remained seated for Mojo's overly bouncy entrance.
Tweet 33: Steve Cutler does not look entirely dissimilar to a young John Felix Anthony Cena.
Tweet 34: Mojo's backside-based moves getting lightly booed there.

Reckon Steve Cutler was hyped taking this move?

Tweet 35: Nobody cares about Mojo. It's like CJ Parker all over again. But at least CJ had a character that could be altered. What else can Mojo do?
Tweet 36: "The smile... is gone!" - Mojo Rawley on losing his smile

Sami Zayn and Adam Rose v Sin Cara and Kalisto

Tweet 37: WWE could do far worse than promote Kalisto to the main roster to tag with Sin Cara there. They could do well against the Usos I reckon.
Tweet 38: They should dress up someone in the Exotic entourage like Leo Kruger.
Tweet 39: Sooner or later Kalisto is going to be on the main roster as a singles guy in the old Rey Mysterio significant masked fella role.

Jazz hands.

Tweet 40: That handstand spot from Kalisto.
Tweet 41: I don't think Sin Cara's botched anything yet...
Tweet 42: Ahhhhhh... he messed the headscissors on Zayn up a bit. Good lad.
Tweet 43: So they're doing Sin Cara and Kalisto versus The Vaudevillains. I suspect the luchas may find themselves booed.
Tweet 44: No post-match Code of Honor handshake. Poor form.
